Arghantyl's Solo_01(Paradisiac Shopping)
« on: March 18, 2011, 12:43:13 AM »
No,i didn't come with empty hands  ;D

Here is a map when i was a young mapper and too decent to be released.
It' s a hard map for veteran Dukers and cooperative partys.
The level is made such as it doable in Damn I good but I think i have to advertise a demo on youtube to show the way  >:D

Test it.And make some comments before final release please  :)

Not bad, some areas could have used more work and texturing was mediocre (the concrete texture is a good example) but lighting was pretty good most of the time and the map had a good flow.

I liked the layout and the flow. The texturing was adequate, but could have used some help with trimming. Lighting/Shading was mostly good, but there were a few areas that were missed.

Some of the atomic healths could have been replaced by sixpaks, because there were a few too many of them. A few of the mini-battlelords could have been swapped out for something else to change up the combat scenarios, but overall it was pretty fun.  (Y)

I agree with Forge and Mikko.  It was a fun map with good layout and flow, but the texturing needed some more work.  And there was at least one elevator with the wrong wall relativity.  Overall, it felt like a good user map from 1997.

I played it using my War of Attrition mod.  It's a good fit with this kind of map, and helps the gameplay considerably.  For example, about half of the battlelords were replaced by Cycloid minibosses, so it wasn't so repetitive.

Cool little map, just completed it (Y) took me 25 mins or so and I found 6 secrets out of the 8 you threw in. I liked the gameplay, you had some cool ideas, especially that battle towards the end where you had to use the jetpacks and everything worked really well. Nice weapon to monster ratio as well, there was probably way too much health though but then again I played on Let's Rock and not on Damn I'm Good which I just noticed that you suggested so that might be why. The design wasn't too bad either, I liked some sections and some others not so much but they all had character, and yeah there were quite a lot of texturing mistakes or little flaws here and there but it didn't distract from the fun I had playing the level itself. Also the layout was pretty cool. A worthy play

edit - I'll turn this into a formal review real quick so it can be put up on the site

Paradisiac Shopping is a fun little map set inside a shopping mall (contrary to what you might have expected reading its name) that will keep you entertained for about 25 minutes and happens to offer a lot of secret places if you like side quests, all containing extra weapons to fill up your arsenal. The gameplay flows well and introduces some cool ideas, that heavy battle towards the end where you are heavily encouraged to use the jetpack is particularly interesting. There is probably too much health and a few texturing mistakes and little asthetical flaws here and there but the map still has character and most importantly it shouldn't distract from the fun you will have playing the level. A worthy play for anyone into rather intense firefights, levels with a flowy gameplay and layout, 1997-retro look and going shopping with their mommy on saturdays.
