Musicians Thread
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:08:36 AM »
Just couldn't resist to start one.... ;D

In this thread we can talk about:

*Music bands you like, posting breaking news (about live concerts, gigs etc.)
*Your favourite kind of music etc. etc. (no, this is not "what you're listening to :P).
*Post your own music (if you have any), and we can support each other :P (common Puritan, you know you want to :P).

If there is any interest, I'll post a recent made album by me and Merlijn.

Heh, this is what we're using while recording our blues tunes:

http://www.bassboy.com.au/getreel/site/samples/tandberg/3kxtest/3000x.htm

A bit hard to upload from. :P
But we're going to digitally record some songs next year. As I've mentioned before; One of my friends runs a private record studio.
Until then I can't promise samples.

I'm using Marshall DSL 401 Combo amp. The sound from this amp is way better than many much more expencive models.
In a few weeks I will buy a 4x12" cabinet to increase the sound.

The amp:

Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you...
You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
What do I do?

Oh my god! I don't know what to say.
A short while ago a friend of mine asked me if our band was looking for a lead singer. I told him that: Yes, we're looking for somebody to sing.
Now, he presented me for a woman he knows about.

We invited her to a rehearsal last sunday and asked what she would like to sing.
-Janis Joplin, she said.
Ok, so we tuned up our gear and started to play.
Man.... :o.....she sang a Janis Joplin song that knocked me off my feet!!
I can swear: If I didn't knew it was her I would easily bet money on that this voice was Janis herself!
The other guys also stared to each other, stared at her, stared at me, forgot to play, didn't found words....etc.

Looking forward to next rehearsal.... 8)

Awesome to hear man! :) Hope you get some recordings/demos soon (Y)

Merlijn & I are currently focusing on a band too, we've had a few jam sessions and it's going quite great! 8)

And here's some live-footage of my other band, 'Lost promise'. It's the second half of the song 'Like sheep'.
Of course, I'm the one playing the piano and singing. It was a great gig! :)

Enjoy!

Great!  (Y)
Although the quality of the video could be better, (next time the cameraman could zoom in more ;) ) the quality of the music from this band is very extraordinary good.
I also played the other song "Show me The World" and I think it sounds pretty professional indeed.

What I want to know is; Who cut your hair  ;D Was that Maarten on the right side of the stage, who are the other members of the band, where was this performance and when and why don't you guys have a website yet?
Anyway keep on going!  (Y)

Thanks for commenting! :)

Now to answer your questions: I had a haircut about 2 monthss ago. ;) Maarten isn't in this band, the other bandmembers are people I met in Amsterdam. This performance was in the p60 (Amstelveen), it was a band-contest with a jury and a publics-choise award (publieksprijs). We won the latter.  O0
Website will come in time, this was only our second gig ever and we don't have enough material yet to play a complete set (at this gig we played 4 songs, but since we only write long songs the show lasted about 25 minutes  ;D).

OK - so here is a first gig we played with the band with both Merlijn and I in it, called - Whatt :)
For me it was the very first time to play in the front of audience. Have to say it was awesome :)

2 vids:

Whatt - G&A; improvised jam on chords..well...G & A :P :

Whatt - Hiding, a own written song by us, the vocals aren't very clear due to technical problems. But it's till cool! Enjoy!  8)

Cool!!  O0

You guys have built the songs correctly.
The organ part at the end of vid 1 is good.

But.....you'll never have the groove without a bassplayer!
Turn everybody upside down in that restaurant, collect the change and get one!

G&A made me feel the same way I feel when I listen to Metallica-Fade to Black. Hiding for some reason made me think of an old iron maiden song off their first album, but I can't remember the name of it.

Agree with Puritan on all parts. That, and then those songs would sound nice and tight in a studio production.

So when's your first release? And post a link so I can get it over here in the United States.

Thanks for the comments! As for Iron maiden, maybe you meant 'Remember tomorrow'? That song has a similar dynamic (softer verses, heavy chorus).
And indeed we seek for a bass-player, we have someone who's interested but he hasn't rehearsed with us yet (in fact I don't even know the guy :P).

So when's your first release?

When it's done. ;) At this point we're mostly composing and rehearsing, this was the first time we've played in front of an audience. But when we've recorded something, we'll definately post a link. :)
