[RELEASE] Supply Depot
« on: November 22, 2010, 03:40:28 PM »
I've known about DNR for about as long as I've known about Duke4, and yet for some reason I keep forgetting that this site has a forum, too.
Anywho, I recently released a map I worked on this past spring, and it seems to be pretty well received over on Duke4, so I figured I'd whore it out here, as well. I'm only providing a link to the thread on Duke4, where the map is attached and there are a few screens.

http://forums.duke4.net/index.php?showtopic=3040&pid=63420&st=0&#entry63420

Enjoy, and don't by shy about letting me know what you think!

where you live too, the weather sucks so much at this time of the year that you can't skate and you have to focus on making maps in your spare time instead ? haha

the screens look tight, I'm going to check out your map right now and comment

completed it. The design was awesome, nice mastery of the modern mapping style with lots of spritework, detail and a good attention to shading (I tend to prefer maps with sharper light contrasts though, but that's just me). The gameplay was really good, it's easy to turn 'industrial-themed' maps into mazes, and while yours had quite a lot of rooms but I didn't get lost once. Good ammo / monster / health ratio too, I liked how somewhat restricted the player was on shotgun ammo, instead of being given the gun at the start then finding shells aplenty like it happens in a lot of maps (including my own) in yours it's not a 'stock' weapon, you actually have to work your way to the place where it's located and shoot sparingly. All in all I liked it, if it's your first map I'm looking forward to your next releases

Excellent map. Great architecture, good and tasteful texturing all around with great trimwork and solid shading. I really liked the challenging aspect of it with very few health packs and what MRCK noted regarding the scarce ammunition. I hope to see more releases from you.

I've been meaning to play this, but I have to leave on another trip and won't be able to until Sunday at the earliest.

Yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Texas weather changes a lot, but down by the gulf, it's pretty consistent. Either humid, or sweltering hot.
I live in north Texas now where it's much more tame, but I've lived most of my life down by the Gulf of Mexico.

There actually is another stash of shotgun shells in the map, but it's so difficult to find, even I typically forgot to grab it in most of the test-runs.

I've been meaning to play this, but I have to leave on another trip and won't be able to until Sunday at the earliest.

No rush. Especially now that it's posted up on MSDN.

Played it last night and I liked it  (Y)

Keep it coming!

PS: I died two times when I was coming back through the waterpool and exactly when I broke the "surface" of the water.
A little difference in architecture between the two maps maybe ? ( Over/under water maps)

I can't quite remember where I went wrong with that sector, but there are a few disparities between it, and the above-water sector that can cause you to get squished when you submerge, though I could only managed to make this happen if I was right up against that orange pipe, or in the corner across from it. Fixing it, however, would mean recreating the entire sector, which I'm not too sure is worth it. Good observation, though.

Ah I see, I have a friend who skates who lives in Leander, TX, which is in central Texas if I'm not mistaken ? and it's always sunny there or so it seems, funny how weather conditions can vary a lot on rather short distances. I skate too (and have been for 10+ years) and I'm pretty much in the same situation as you weather-wise in France, we've been getting so much rain and even snow lately it's not even fair. Anyway, again your map was cool - hope you stick around and release more !

I died there too, but due to getting shot by the enemies surrounding the water.

It's a good map, glad I finally got around to playing it (I also posted at Duke4.net btw).
