[RELEASE] Nightshade Army
« on: June 02, 2010, 06:03:58 PM »
Hi everyone!!

After two months of hard work, finally i had finished my new map 'Nightshade Army' :D, it takes place in a medium-sized night city and...well, better play it!!!!!!!

The map requires Eduke32,i implemented several Dukeplus stuff like cutscene cameras, enemies, sparkers, and other things. But Dukeplus is not necesary to play, even though it enhance the gameplay action. Also runs pretty fine on Attrition.

I would thank to my betatesters: Mikko Sandt, Forge and Gambini for all the support and feedback.

I included some music clips and a background war ambience in dethtoll.

Here some shots:

It's a great map. But as I said on other forum it has its flaws.

This is a great map, with a unique and sophisticated style.  (Y)  It has a few flaws in flow and gameplay, but nothing too serious, and it looks fantastic.  It starts small and ends in a big battle.  It works fine in vanilla Duke, so there is really no excuse to not play it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes it works fine on vanilla. So there`s no prob if u don`t like Dikeplus on this map.

Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you...
You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
What do I do?

I've only played the beta-test version. I'll have to play the final release at least twice (vanilla & dukeplus) before I can write up a review. Time permitting that may be this Saturday or Sunday, unless someone else does one up first.

Just went through it, using Dukeplus, completed it in about less than a hour I'd say (I forgot to check the timer at the end of the level) but then again I love getting lost in maps and exploring. I thought it was good, on other forums I've seen people complain about the gameplay but I personally thought it was well-balanced, with more ammo than needed and enough health to deal with the monsters during the firefights, and it was always pretty obvious where to go next, I didn't have a problem with it (besides spending a few minutes trying to find out how to get into the last building after activating the last switch - I even managed to get into the little room, before I realized I had to stay outside and shoot at it). The fireifights were all good except the last one that was way too easy, I managed to kill the boss by just staying in the main room and shooting RPGs through the door strafing back and forth without having to step outside once. The design was pretty outstanding, excellent in a lot of places, with a fairly unique style throughout. Definitely a hot map I enjoyed playing.

Just a little anomaly that bled over from dukeplus into the vanilla duke version.

About that pick Forge, yeah, those special newbeast works on Dukeplus only, so i decided make them small instead of putting spawners cos i´m too lazy ;P

My god!

I was having some trouble in the game but you are an amazing mapper, you really have no flaws exept not warning people about saving!

(I got killed by that red card thing, I wanted to see what it was :D)

To be honest, I didn´t die even once. I saved a lot for sure, but I didn´t encounter anything that much difficult to take me out, even the ending battle was easy - no problems at all.

Overall a great map. Nice spritework and details all over the map, especially the motorcycle and mothership was ace! My suggestion: put more challenge into your next map and keep the mood dark - it works in your maps.
