My first episode
« on: February 13, 2010, 01:59:15 PM »
Hello!

I'm working on my first episode (and even first thing im gonna share with people) called LA Once More.

Well, most maps from it gonna be at night. It will be city episode with pretty much stuff like secrets, events (enemy spawns), duke talks etc. In future i will maybe add some arts, but first i need to learn something about it. Now i have 3 maps completed, and working on 4th. Write what You think about screens. I hope You will like it :)

I have added 2 screenshots to this post. Rest is in RAR.

Well, I'd suggest you upload your screenshots as attachments to your post instead of forcing viewers to download and decompressing a Rar file in order to have a look.

Then you can expect some more feedback.  ;)

Looks pretty good, classic style, good work on texturing and lighting so far although it's a bit hard to tell since the screens are of pretty low quality.

They are low quality because they size was bit too high. Here are 3 screens in bit better quality, i could upload better, but their size is very high :/. Tomorrow i will upload screens of 3rd map, when i polish this and that (it looks quite messy yet).

Well, no. It's for 32 bit. Im using EDuke32 port (and thoose polymost light stuff here and there, but HRP and Polymost are turned off on screens).

I've added 3 more screens of third map, which is now fully-ready (maybe polish this and that, but just for better look)

Looks good, but also very dark. The last shot has pretty strong lightning, I'd recommend more of that throughout the map. Especially since you're going for the 3dr-style.

Well, first two shots, are outside, and it supposed to be night, third one is in underground-magazine. Only first two maps are supposed to be night-ones.

Also third map has few strong light sources. I have captured few samples on screens here.

And i have to say it - i forget about road lights! So i added some.
I have also added few road lights to near "INNOCENT" sign area - its looks really better now!

Looking very good there.  8)

You're right about that. Actually, one of the reasons why I never liked episode 3 as much as the others was the brightness of the outdoor areas - most levels look like they take place in broad daylight (fahrenheit being the worst).

Yeah, I also like the shading without forgetting some minor spritework and bit cramped like design and layout when looking at those screenshots. Keep it going, there´s nothing against new talented mappers.
I´m RazorZ, mapper from Finland, big fan of Duke - what else you could be waiting for?

Currently released maps (score is average):
    - Resistance Rocks (89,5)
    - Demolition Plant   (92)
    - Mincer City            (94)

About that first screen, I think it's just the texturing that needs more work, especially the floor and textures on the pillars / counters. Find a better replacement and polish things a little bit I guess. My favorite out of these three screens has to be the second one.

I think the floor texture is fine, works with such intense lighting.
