Learn to walk before to run. two stories buildings and such are advanced features that you should learn to do with time, they involve complex stuff further than just visual. I dont want to pop your enthusiasm, but that´s not ¨Simple, basic things¨.

I've already built a two story house. It's just a shell with two floors, but now I think I know what I need to do to put in windows and doors and connect the floors with stairs or ramps. I think I can do it better with a spiral stair case once I figure out how to build one (I think I know, but I'll figure it out with some experimenting). I know you can't put windows on both floors so that they can be seen at the same time because of the annoying visual bugs where walls turn invisible unless you make a fake second story floor out of sprites. Thanks for the motivation and encouragement  (Y)

Multiple story buildings involve LOTS of sprites  8)
Besides that; If you have monsters in one story they'll notice Duke even if he enters another story... :-[

Your sarcasm detector works, but I was smiling when I wrote it. The thing is, I know next to nothing about what can and can't be done so I'm just playing around and experimenting; trying to figure it out on my own because that's the best way for me to learn. It's not like I'm going to be putting out maps next week, I have the rest of my life to figure it out. Now that you issued me a challenge, once I figure out the dynamics of a two story house I'm going to put an underground garage on it too just because you said I can't.

Talking of sprites... When doing spritework there are often times when one sprite will poke through another even if they are not touching. I noticed on some maps there does not seem to be this problem.

Anybody have any tips on how to minimise this?

Make it one-sided. ;)

Only in the specific situations does that apply. This is bug in the engine, which as far as I know is unfixable. Playing in Polymost, and I assume also in Polymer, will fix this problem.

That´s not exactly a bug but the way that build renders sprites. Build uses a simple routine that draws the closer sprite (from its origin point) above any other sprite. If you make your spritework keeping that in mind, it should look ok.

Thanks  for your tips and suggestions, I will try them out.  :)

I don't play with the HRP and dukeplus partly because the game runs slowly on my laptop with them on. I like the feel of the original 8bit graphics more too.

A little trick to go...

Allign multiple walls at once.

In 3D mode point at the first wall and hit " . " (dot)  ;)

Polymost and Polymer =/= HRP or Dukeplus

Figured out how to make a multi-floored room-over-room building out of two sided walls so it can actually have a modifiable roof and customized height instead of the usual flat-roof to the sky design, but the visual bugs are horrible even without windows and doors. If I can learn to make a roof out of sprites then I'm gold because that's where the bug is mainly coming from.

Learning is fun, think I'll try to figure out the spiral staircase then move on to playing with sprites.

I have an annoying problem that keeps cropping up.
Sometimes when I have made a new sector and raise it out of the ground, one of the walls has a streched texture and no matter what I try - I can't stretch the texture. All I can do is pan.

Do you think this is a problem with my technique?

Thanks
