Thanks a lot; Numan!

Just a little advice:

Beware where you're standing when encountering protecor drones. If you get shrunk, you'll might fall down under the crates in some corridors.
Some of those pits are escapeable and some not...

I think this version is more scary and have more of the ambience from the movie than the previous version.

Enjoy!!

Like the map - nice base design , middle Difficulty . 7/10

One  question - why after release you still talkin' about in "In the Works" ?

^ That's a good question.
That's why I closed the "In the Works" thread and opened this one...

Hmm I didn't notice much difference with the first version tbh. Was the wind-sound already present in the original? And I believe there was more steam and flickering lights, but the gameplay was the same (I played up until the cargo bay, since I thought you would change the beginning the most).
What exactly has been changed?  ??? Maybe something went wrong with my download?

^Delete all files related to Nostromo. Delete Texture.cache.
Install the new version.

There are about 300 more walls used in the final version.
And there is 12 sounds. The older version had some 5-6.

The latest version got more darker areas, a few more "scary-moments" and more enemies.

Ps: Check your Nostromo.zip. Towards the end of Nostromo.txt is a part that is telling you wether you got the beta or final version.  ;)

Ah, I made some mistakes during the installation process.. Silly me.  :-X

Anyway, the final version is definately an improvement! Very atmospheric and creepy, I liked it very much. Even though I've played the older version already, some moments managed to scare and surprise me. I liked the new sounds a lot, especially the ticking. Quite mysterious and creepy. (Y)
I'll update my little review soon. :)

LOL... ;D

But I agree with the rest, although I was stuck a lot in the beginning and didn't know where to go next.
Great map Frode! (Y)

Remember the movie? Kane was killed and Ripley almost gave her life in her attempt to rescueing her cat.
Well, the cat is present in this map..

Thanks Merlijn!
I've spent almost a year on this map.

I hope to reach the hall of fame regarding "scary Duke maps"... :P

Good news!

I've decided to continue this adventure.
I will make a map for each movie in this serie;

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.

Should be three to go then...

Sounds like a new alien themed episode!  :)

I increased the score a bit.

But I'll assure you I WAS NOT DRUNK WHEN I WROTE THE UPDATE (but I was when I wrote the MSDN news update and now!).

Your plan of making more maps with Alien/Aliens/Alien 3/Alien: RE as the source of inspiration sounds good!

I like the map. I haven't played it much, very little. I had HRP enabled.

I wonder if I can make it to work with dukeplus, how it would feel.

Welcome aboard, Supergoofy!

Nostromo is designed for usage with HRP as written in the template.

I haven't DP installed so I don't know how the map works under DP.
There might be other members that have tested it though.

Well I done the dukeplus conversion for FM2X and Outpost X. I have posted them at 3D Realms forums, a while back.

I might try to make Nostromo work with Duke Plus, if I have time. Lately I tried to learn some con coding, because I wanted to fix a bug in Duke64 mod. By the way, Duke64 mod v1.31 is out.

I don't know if Duke64 mod is allowed here, thus I will not say more.

If I fix Nostromo for Duke Plus usage, I will let you know. It mustn't be very hard to do it.

[edit]

NostromoPlus.con attached

usage: eduke32 -game_dir DukePlus -jnostromo -hdukeplus.def -xNostromoPlus.con -map nostromo.map

Note: All Nostromo custom sounds are enabled
