Half Life 2 Episode 2: Southernmost Combine
« on: September 28, 2008, 05:54:27 PM »
That crappy name will probably die before die my enthusiasm about mapping for this game, but right now is the only tittle that illustrate my idea of this map-pack.

Im Working on Half life 2 Episode 2, and it will be probably composed by three maps. The following screenshots are showing some in-development areas, but you can guess what is about this pack.

Some feedback is welcome  ;)

The architecture is pretty friggin good, but your lighting is too intense. Tone it down a tad.

Never played the game, but they look nice. My grandfather was a railroad man so I'm partial to rail yards and trains myself.
I like the lighting. The angle and intensity reminds me of driving into a sunset.

Looks nice from the shots.
What's the progress?
Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you...
You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you
What do I do?

The mod is still alive, i been mapping on it a lot, and there is almost nothing from the first screens that keep being alive.

I´m just wanting to have a quiet time (i´m not ready for feedback). Besides, yesterday i finished my first source model successful:

Still i need to work on the skin, but...

Ok,no feedback.
But I'm very glad to see that this mapping project isn't thrown in thrashcan.

Beside Duke, I love HL2 and Doom3.
Anyone who care for building single player HL2 maps is appreciated!

With that about ¨no feedback¨ i was giving the explanation of why im not showing screenshots from the mod. Of course you can give feedback about the stuff shown here.  :)

In fact, im going to uptade the thread name.

Impressive work you've got there. (You know, you could be a professional level designer.) Do you take a lot of influence from real life locations? (I noticed in that old Blown Fuses thread that you said you went outdoors to draw some inspiration from locations around you.)

Lighting is impressive but tell me you've got plenty of outdoor areas under construction as well? (Just curious because you posted five indoor and just one outdoor shot.)

Thanks! i wish i could be a proffesional level designer, but i run out of inspiration often and have to take rests in order to recover the muse. The screens here are mostly outdated i´ve done a lot more but i decided to keep it outline for now, because im working on and off on it and i have a plan in mind (i know, will take me ten years to have it done, but still).

About the inspiration, yeah i tend to inspire my maps in real places, one reason is for being realistic, and another reason is for being original, i drive a mail truck the whole day so i have some influences from it, sometimes when i see something really outstanding that i could map, i just take a shot with my cellphone. But lately i got the mayority of the inspiration in internet images, you know i search with keys as ¨old building¨ ¨abandoned hospital¨ sort of, sometimes you´ll be finding awesome pictures.

I´ll try to attach some other screenshots, but there is a couple of maps that i need to compile again because i formated the disk about a month ago.

The wallpaper on the window wall on your first screenshot looks a bit...odd but that's just a minor thing.
Rest of the shots looks great and it inspires me to play the game again after 2 years.

Don't forget to add the zombies, they're the best I've ever seen in a game.

^ You should play it some time. Probably it's not so expensive anymore.
It's very realistic and the zombie part gave me the creeps.

One of the best games I've ever seen...
