i was thinking of a somewhat three-dimensional kind of map, where the boss would be on stayput at the center, preferably at the top of some elevated structure (a rooftop, or an hovering sprite-based spaceship of some sort), surrounded by a zone of nothingness. That area would be unreachable by the player but it would be surrounded by buildings in a circular fashion, as if it was some sort of city block built around the zone with the boss ; the buildings would have broken walls and windows (some pre-broken, some triggerable by touchplates, for extra action points), and the accessible floors in every building would be at different heights. The player shouldn't be able to shoot at the boss until he reaches the last floor of the last building (or maybe should he only then be authorized to trigger explosion sequences using switches that would hurt the boss, in a Quake-like kind of fashion), on the other hand the boss should ideally be able to fire rockets at the player the whole time in order to force him to be wary of the broken walls on some floors, and to have to try to occasionally take cover. In order to progress throughout the level until he reaches the last floor of the last building, the player would have to solve simple elevator / jumping puzzles, nothing elaborate, just for the sake of action. A lot of explosions, earthquakes and respawn could be used to make it look like the city is being under attack. Flying spaceships going around in circles around the map like in E2L1 or FBSP003.map with ambient sounds would be a great addition. Some wall explosions could be disguised as replicas of these same spaceships crashing against the walls of the buildings, à la kamikaze. That's what I had in mind, but I really don't have the time to do anything Duke-related these days again. I am so busy with stuff that I even struggle to find the right time to do my monthly working hours (thankfully I am home-employed).
