I thought I was the only DN3D nut!
« on: July 11, 2008, 03:33:14 PM »
I can't believe it. This must be heaven. This is my most favorite game of all time despite it's age.  I have some questions for you guys:

1. I've seen screen shots of some sort of updated version of this game. Fantastic res. What's up with that? Is there a new version out?

2. Where can I get levels and mods for version 1.3?

3. You guys ever dukematch? When and where?

4. I'd love to learn how to build my own levels. I just recently found the game again so any help appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you guys. It's very comforting to know I'm not the only one to have been posessed by this game since my youth. I'm 36 now and I still say "groovy" when people ask me how I'm doing. I love this game.

1.  That's the HRP (high resolution pack).  It uses the EDuke32 port and adds models and high resolution graphics.  The EDuke32 port is essential for Duke 3D these days.  Get it:  http://eduke32.com/

2.  Right here.  But you really should get the Atomic edition since it is the standard base for mapping and modding and has been for years.

3.  Someone else can answer that.

4.  Nukey made a really nice information suite for mapping which you can download from this site.

There are other active forums too, AMC (the most active Duke3D mapping forum) & 3DRealms.

Check the site under my avatar if you want to get the best Duke3D maps out there.

Yeah man, welcome to DNR. Hope you stick around.

What youre gonna need to do is, go on Ebay, or 3D Realms' website, and buy the Atomic Edition of the game. Its 20 dollars on 3DR's site:
http://3drealms.stores.yahoo.net/games.html

You may be able to find it cheaper on Ebay.

When you download Eduke32 (Which you must), it comes with Mapster32, the program you can make levels with, I also recommend the Info Suite that Deeperthough mentioned, and here's a direct link:
http://duke3d.bur.st/index.php?getFile=2505

Quite a few people Dukematch, but there are different ways to do it. Most people will recommend using things like Dukkonector and whatnot, but using Hamachi is way easier. Ive only used it for Shadow Warrior, but it likely works the same with Duke. Maybe we can setup a DM match soon.

Also, I dont think anyone has made levels and mods for 1.3 since like 1998. Seriously, get the Atomic Edition, you get a whole new episode!

I appreciate it fellas! I actually have another question. How do you guys normally run your games. All I have is 1.3, which I am rediscovering, and I use DosBox to run it. It works great.  Do you guys do the same thing?

OK....I think I may have answered my own question. I went to that site and downloaded eduke32, which used my registered version of 1.3.

Now, other than not having to load it through DosBox what are the advantages? I did notice that it had a couple of more graphics resolution options but nothing really all that much better than the original.

Could you fellas give me a step by step guide as to what I need to download and do to have the ultimate Duke experience?
I'm not a technophile at all but I am a DN addict.

PS. As an interesting side note, I just had an Army class where my instructor was Sgt. Newcomb. The class came up with the idea to call ourselves "The Dukes of Newcomb".............get it? ha....my idea, of course.

Thanks,

Lance

Eduke32 allows you to have lot of new things, more resolutions is just one of them.
It is the needed port to use those high resolution things that you saw.
also is the needed port to use all the new user maps that exceds the old limits, and lot of new cool mods that you will be knowing.

Now, what you have to do ?step by step? to get the best duke game experience:

1st: purchase or download the duke nukem 3d atomic edtion (very important)
2nd: (you already done it) get the latest eduke32 snapshot
3rd: download the Duke nukem HRP (high resolution pack) 3.00 and download the latests updates 3.0 > 3.9
4th: download Dukeplus, i?s an enhacer gaming that improves lot of things like monsters behavours and weapons.

when you?ve already done all that, we can tell you how to put to work all, but it?s easy.

Im still the highest rank, AND A PIRATE! ;D

Eduke32 in general is the most supreme version of the game, it doesnt add too much if you arent interested in mods, but its still recommended.

20 bucks?!

I paid $6.00 for my copy of Atomic Edition, and that was in 1999.

It's the only physical copy of a game I own.
