And thanks Deeperthought, I didn't even know about that function! Go figure, I've been using mapster for years and even now it has features I don't know about. :P

There are a zillion such features in Mapster. In fact, the whole Mapster/Build is based on knowing keys, which is why it can be such a huge turnoff for new people, as I said a couple of posts ago.

The sprite search feature is a recent addition (less than 2 years old I guess).  And yeah, it's a fucking nightmare to learn how to use mapster.

yeah I'm sure there's a lot of functions (even really basic ones) that I don't know about mapster either, and I've been mapping for 10+ years, no wonder why most of the mappers still left in the game are all the ones who started toying around with Duke and Build at the very beginning, they learned the basics then only had to learn about the new features of JonoF build, Mapster32 etc... on the go as they appeared, I'm sure it's really confusing to learn how to map for Duke from scratch in 2011, then again back then we had the handicap of not having (or having restricted) internet access so there was much much less info around on websites and everything in order to learn the basics, we had to be passionate and really be eager to learn in order to keep going,

It's certainly an editor that could be a lot more user friendly. I cursed it so many times in the past for being such a pain in the ass.  ;D
Not to kiss anyone's ass, but I remember finding dukeplus very refreshing to work with when I first started to use it, because most effects were so easy to implement and the whole 'yvel xvel' system made a lot more sense to me.

I started mapping for DN3D back in '08. If it weren't for Nukey's online tutorial I would've probably never bothered with it -- that is learning everything myself or following some other obscure .txt tutorial.

Mapster has gotten easier to use in some ways, thanks mostly to Helixhorned.  Now when you hover over an SE, it says what it does.  If you make a swing door, there will be an overlay showing which way the door will open based on the SE angle.  Stuff like that.

I've been playing some old Alejandro maps. Good stuff. Especially Hydrostation, I completely forgot about that map but it features some amazing design and very complex spritework. Also has pretty good gameplay, with a bit of unlinearity in the beginning.

Is that the one where the station goes into self-destruct mode and you have to backtrack through most of the level (although it doesn't really self-destruct)?  I like that one too.

Yep, that's the one. Too bad the base doesn't actually explode at the end, that would have made the map complete. Very good map though.

I'm still not a huge fan of Military madness, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the texture selection.

He could be doing maps for duke again instead of wasting his time on twiter.

Things don´t fit in Gambini´s head: twiter, facebook, fotolog.

Well, i used to despise cellphones too but had to give up eventually.

I'm pretty sure you added me on facebook not too long ago... ;-) Haha :P (although I've to admit I didn't care either for those things years ago).

BTW, I just noticed the "map release day" add on the site, and it says Roch Island..is from 2006 already! Damn, it's already 5 years ago....

Time goes way too fast :(

Luckily I've had lots of fun those years tho ;)

Excuses apart, i don´t like those new social networks.
